The Parrot- Graffiti in Varanasi And Artist Shashi Kant Nag

Graffiti Project "The Parrot"

By Shashi Kant Nag in Varanasi,

Near chitrkar Lane Assi, in the month of May, 2014

One of my Friend Mr. Yogesh Agrawal Say's, "it is a positive sign towards developing awareness among young in the urban area like Varanasi to connect with nature." i don't know, it is true or..? as my creative urge, i become crazy to execute graffiti. it is because I came in connection with many of graffiti artist Globally during Authoring a Book "The Emergence of Graffiti Art  on Varanasi's Ghats".  (Later, The book published in title of Graffiti India, from Luminous Books Varanasi in 2019.)

On The Subject of Graffiti in India, I Hope, this is the first ever book in which Author tried to manifest the mood and enthusiastic creation of Graffiti artists in Indian perspective. In general, street art is either considered as public art or just pure vandalism. Usually known for different virtual names Graffiti artist's activities are spreading widely in all over India in last one decade. As we know, India have a long tradition of wall paintings of different kind like, Phad Paintings of Rajasthan, Madhubani Paintings, Rangoli, Soharai from Bihar, etc. and many Ritual to define wall Illustrations e.g. Kohavar, Dwar Puja, Marriage etc.  In these murals usually Indian artist created artworks based on the figure of God and goddesses, human, birds, animals and nature.

Graffiti isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of art forms in India, and true to that assumption what we had been seeing so far in our travels came in more traditional forms and content – lots of sculptures and pictures depicting gods, history and legends. No doubt that the trend of modern Graffiti came from west but Indian Graffiti painter have different basic concept to adopt it. Basically it is used as device to create attention and go beyond the framed canvas.

Any way; I totally enjoyed these moment and got more opportunity for Graffiti Art which is not Vandal. HA Ha Ha. :) ,
